When people hear the word organic they think of food that is good for you. But is organic food really better than regular food.
Organic food comes from organic farming. Organic farming varies worldwide but generally means farming to cycle resources, promote ecological balance and conserve biodiversity. Organizations that regulate organic products may restrict the use of certain pesticides and fertilizers while farming. Organic foods don’t use irradiation, synthetic food additives, or industrial solvents.
In my opinion I think that organic foods and regular foods are basically the same. The farming method is just different.
There has been no good evidence to support claims that organic food is safer or healthier. Organic ingredients have a little bit higher levels of vitamins and secondary metabolites. Scientist aren’t sure if these little differences really matter to our health because the difference is so small. Organic foods is also more expensive than regular food and that makes hard for people to buy because we don’t have money to buy organic food. I think that the price of organic food should be cheaper since there is no real evidence that it is actually more beneficial to us.
Only about 1% of of agricultural land worldwide is organically farmed. Organic farming is good for the environment but produces 19%-25% less product than traditional farming. People in the u.s spent $39.1 billion on organic food. Non-organic food is cheaper and there is no proven study to show that organic is actually better and healthier for you.
People claim that organic food is better for you and taste better. A lot of people buy organic food to avoid chemicals. I think that they just see the label that says organic and automatically think that it’s better for you.
